Columbus: Saturday, March 29, 2008 promises to a fun-filled evening of
entertainment to support the Ohio Lesbian Festival. Hosted by East Village,
the evening's show starts at 10 PM and includes live entertainment, a
fabulous raffle and more. East Village is located at 630 N High St,
Columbus, OH 43215.
The 2007 festival was severely hampered by an all day rain, but that has not
dampened the spirits of the organizing committee. Committed to continuing
the festival in spite of financial challenges from the low attendance last
year, the group is hard at work raising money to fund the 2008 event. The
19th annual Ohio Lesbian Festival is scheduled for September 13, 2008 and
will take place once again at Frontier Ranch in Kirkersville, Ohio.
Well known performer and headliner from the 2007 Festival, Nedra Johnson
returns to Columbus for this benefit performance. Nedra will be joined by
local performers Donna Mogavero and Cindy Wolfe & Jenn Litt. Rounding out
the evening will be spoken word artist Colelea: Radical Word Dyke and one of
Cleveland's hottest new bands, Early Girl. Throw in a smattering of Drag
Kings and you have a recipe for a rockin' evening!
In addition to the entertainment, there will be a raffle and silent auction
with some wonderful prizes donated by various businesses and individuals.
All proceeds from the event including the $8.00 suggested door donation will
go to fund the 2008 Ohio Lesbian Festival. All are welcome!
The festival is a nonprofit, volunteer driven womyn only event designed to
promote womyn's economy, community and art. The festival recognizes that in
the world at large, heterosexism and woman hatred are the norm. The
Festival was founded on the premise that lesbians and queer womyn need
opportunities and spaces to recognize and support each other, to define our
culture, to find our own strengths and to be empowered.
